Essential Questions:  Students are to complete the essential questions handout (the one with the picture of the train and crowd of people).  Then, on the back, students are asked to write the story of the event (thus answering the essential questions posed on the first side)

Who Were the Loyalists?

An important factor in the early population of Canada was the influx of immigrants from the loyalists during the War of Independence.  This caused a diversified group of 40,000 immigrants to create a new face of Canada: a face of multiculturalism and religious diversity.  This also helped to bring about changes in development and economy in Canada.
